This is probably the most meaningless, ridiculous thing to ever happen in a school board.
Yesterday, we were informed 15 minutes before end of the day that a new law was just passed.
Guess what this law does?
School are now required to provide 15 seconds of silence to students each day for no specific reason! for no reason AT ALL!
So we observed our first moment of silence yesterday, while some kid was shouting in the hallway.
I’m usually not against the rules and laws because I understand the need. But 15 seconds of silence for no reason at all? I don’t particularly mind the 15 seconds, so long as we have a purpose. Someone said that it’s for prayers, but what can you pray in 15 seconds? And do those people have any idea how much time we are wasting?
15sec/day * 30 days/month * 9month/year = 4050 sec/year = 4050sec/year *1 hour/3600sec = 1.125 h/year
Okay, 1 hour per year isn’t too big of a deal. But look at it this way. It means 2-3 episodes of anime! Watching anime is so much more meaningful than 15 sec of doing nothing.
And for the freshmen, they’ll have to observe 1.125 h * 4 = 4.5 hour worth of pointless silence time during their entire high school career. That’s like, 10 episodes of anime! And for some of them that stay an extra year, that would be 1.125 h * 5 = 5.625 hours. You can even finish Pretear or Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei during that extremely meaningful silence time.
Arrgh.
Okay, I’m done with my complaints. Now, I’ll go and love our extremely meaningful silence time with my whole heart. really.
BTW, the freshmen look so young and innocent! O.m.g. I can’t believe I used to look like that…
aRRgh.
[edit] Shoot. Right. I forgot that we don’t go to school 30days/month. That would be what they do in China. But you can at least still squeeze in one episode of anime per year. And for four years, that’s like four episodes! Or one to two movies! That is still a better way to spend your time…
